“Buy Me a Coffee” isn’t for me

I’ve been there. So, I know what I’m talking about.

I’ve tried platforms like buymecoffee.com and ko-fi.com, hoping they’d be the perfect way to monetize my content. I’ve even gone the extra mile, adding products, offering subscription packages, and consistently creating content on the platforms to engage my followers.

I put in the work for over a year, but I’ll be honest — things didn’t quite work out as I expected. After much thought, I realized that platforms like these just aren’t for me, and here’s why.

  1. The competition is intense

One of the biggest challenges I faced was the stiff competition. You are not the only creator asking for support. You are one among hundreds of thousands, each trying to grab the attention of potential supporters.

Standing out became harder than I expected, especially when other creators had more established followings. It felt like I was trying to shout in a crowded room, hoping someone would listen. But more often than not, nothing happened.

2. It felt like I was begging

Let’s be real for a moment — asking people to “buy me a coffee” or contribute felt a bit uncomfortable. It started to feel like I was constantly pleading for support, and I didn’t like it.
